Without words
Deafeningly loud in its silence...
This piece was created using the "slumping" technique.
The work was inspired by news images of protests in China against strict measures imposed to control COVID-19. Because people there are not allowed to openly criticize government policies, they took to the streets en masse holding blank sheets of paper. This blank page became a symbol of protest.
More broadly, this can be seen as a form of “silent protest,” giving a voice to all those who feel unheard, overlooked, ignored, or marginalized when they ask for their needs and rights to be recognized.
It’s a simple work—serene, powerful, and deafeningly loud in its silence.
